What is Thanks for Being Here about?
Thanks for Being Here - Merci d'être là is a show about one of theatre’s most important elements: the audience. Through video, humour and a series of shifting perspectives, Ontroerend Goed turns its attention to the audience - and the expectations that you bring with you. The fact that you're reading this text, considering to buy a ticket, is well worth celebrating.
Is it an interactive show?
No. You don’t have to do anything. You can simply sit back and watch. We'll watch you.
Will I have to go on stage?
No. Promise. We might come and sit next to you, though.
Do I need to like contemporary theatre to enjoy it?
Not necessarily. The show is for regular theatre-goers as much as for people who only go occasionally. No prior knowledge is required. The show was awarded an audience award from a young audience at the Belgian Theatre Festival (Het TheaterFestival 2024 - Wijkjury).
What makes this show different?
Most shows ask the audience to look at the stage. Thanks for Being Here asks a different question: What happens when we look at the audience instead?
Is it funny?
According to The Guardian, yes. The show combines humour, reflection and surprise. The Guardian called it: “the perfect festival show”.
Who is the show for?
Anyone who has ever sat in a theatre audience. And those that haven't - as well.
Which language is the show in in Avignon?
We're performing in French. For English dates, check our calendar!
